New surcharges could impact US steel and aluminum exports

U.S. President Donald Trump yesterday announced new surcharges on Brazilian steel and aluminum with “immediate” effect, without specifying the types of products to be overtaxed or whether the fee would be the same as in 2018. In March last year, Trump imposed 25% surcharges on our steel imports and 10% on aluminum imports.

The Brazilian government will open negotiations to reduce the impact of the measures announced, this being an important opportunity for the defense of the exporting interests involved.
